Notice: As the days are drawing shorter and colder as winter draws nearer, our hens are starting to slow down laying. Because we believe with working with the hens natural cycles and rhythms, we do not use supplemental light or hormones to push laying, but instead let the hens have the winter season off. Due to this, we will no longer have eggs available until spring. Please get on our waitinglist if interested in spring eggs, and we will be sure to reach out. Thank you for your patience!

We believe our eggs are some of the healthiest you can buy.

Why?

Free Range and pasture raised hens.

Every hen on our farm enjoys a life free of cages and confinement. Roosting in trees, bathing in the sun, foraging through our wooded acres…there is no limit to where she can explore and what she can do. All day, every day.

Low-PUFA, Non-GMO, Simple and Natural.

Our flocks are fed a diet completely free of corn, soy, fish, fillers, GMO food or any unnatural byproducts. The majority of their daily intake consists of natural forage of wild berries, insects and plants. They then get supplemented with a simple mix of grains and seeds, and enjoy weekly snacks of fresh vegetables and fruits. Creating eggs low in PUFAs, high in nutrients. Healthy hens, healthy eggs.

Needle free. No antibiotics, hormones or chemicals, ever.

Our hens are never induced to lay, or treated unnaturally to up production. Winter and old-age production drops are embraced at Mist Haven, letting the hen decide when she needs a break. We also only ever treat our animals herbally and naturally, as simple as possible. If nature didn’t make it, we do not use it.

Family run

Our farm and flock is run by a family of five on the coast of Maine. Our goal is to create food simply, working constantly towards better health and happier animals.

Delicious!

There is nothing more delicious than a vibrant egg laid by a healthy chicken, at least if you ask us. The rich yolks, firm whites, strong shells, and fresh, rich taste proves the happiness of our hens, and once you take your first bite, there will be no going back to supermarket eggs.

Why our eggs?

Family health problems sent us on a journey of questioning our modern food system and searching for a better way to farm. A way where the animals are valued and food was simple. Discouragement at the lack of healthy options eventually led us to the creation of Mist Haven Farm. Here, we believe in raising animals and food the way it should always be, natural, simple and healthy, chemical and pesticide free, working with nature, and not against it. We prioritize and value each hen individually, investing in their health, enrichment and well-being.

Crack-free guarantee.

Because of our strong shells and high quality packaging, receiving a broken egg is very rare. In the case that that does happen, we will happily refund you the money for each broken egg you received.

Low-PUFA, High Nutrients.

We feed our hens with your health in mind. What the hen eats affects the egg, and the egg affects us.

  • Forage fed. The majority of our hens diets come from what they find themselves, ranging from wild berries to fresh plants and live insects. Spending their days foraging through our woods and coast, their wild-caught diet infuses their eggs with nutrients.

  • Low-PUFA, Soy-and-corn free crumbles. To ensure a balanced diet, our flocks are then supplemented then with Non-GMO, soy-and-corn free crumbles, consisting of grains, seeds, grubs and minerals, with weekly Organic vegetable and fruit snacks thrown in. Being Low-PUFA is our highest goal, and their diet is created with this in mind.

Shipped as laid.

Did you know conventional eggs can easily be two months old? By that time they have lost a lot of their nutrients. They are also washed in bleach, sterilizers, and synthetic coatings. At Mist Haven, this is not the case.

  • We ship our eggs within a week of their laid date. All of their nutrients and fresh taste are preserved, giving them a rich, vibrant flavor and texture.

  • Our eggs are unwashed. When a hen lays an egg, her body coats it with a protective "bloom", keeping all bacteria and germs out. Because of the unclean conditions and frequent diseases on regular chicken farms, the eggs are intensely washed in chemicals, destroying the protective, natural coating. To make up for this, they must be coated with synthetic "bloom." Not so on our farm. Our disease free hens and clean living conditions produce eggs in no need of washing, preserving that natural coating. This also means our eggs require no refrigeration, and will keep fresh for a very long time.

Free Range....

Factory farm hens, (Even eggs labeled “Free range”) are crowded or stacked wing to wing, with minimal sunlight or fresh air, if at all, and almost no room to move. Sadly, they input their unhealthy lifestyle into their unhealthy eggs. But at Mist Haven, it is different.

  • No crowding. No wing to wing birds, no cramped enclosures. We believe animals deserve space, and each hen on our farm gets over 100sqft of space, giving them plenty of room to stretch and explore.

  • Pasture raised. All day, every day, our flock enjoys their days exploring and free ranging through our acres of woods, brush and coast, doing everything they were meant to do. With unlimited sunlight, fresh air and room to explore, they spend hours snacking on wild plants and insects, roosting in trees, exploring brush, bathing in the sun, and playing with friends. Happy hens, healthy eggs.

Always natural.

We didn’t like the idea of eating eggs laid by hens raised on conventional medicines, hormones and antibiotics. Thats why we raise our animals naturally and simply, letting nature take the reins.

  • We treat herbally. No antibiotics, no vaccines. Ever. Because our hens are so healthy, they have built up incredibly strong immune systems to fight off most sickness. In the case that they do need extra help, we treat with plants and herbs, nothing artificial or conventional. Our hens are all the better for it.

  • We embrace natural production drops, and we never induce them to lay with hormones or artificial light. Winter and old age laying breaks are worked into our schedules, not avoided or eradicated. If the hen needs a break, she gets it.

Why low-PUFA?

A diet high in Polyunsaturated Fats (Or, PUFAs) is not healthy nor natural for chickens, as well as humans. Because of the shockingly low prices of high PUFA foods such as corn and soy, they have become staple foods for animals across the country, much to the dismay of our bodies. There is increasingly more and more studies and articles being written on the health affects that PUFAs contribute to, including obesity, type-2 diabetes, asthma, inflammation and even cancer. Because hens are fed almost solely on Corn and Soy, eggs can be just as high in PUFAs (namely Linoleic Acid) as canola oil.

At Mist Haven, our goal is to change that. We strive to feed our hens Low-PUFA diets, working to change the fats and nutrients in our eggs back to what they were always meant to be. Will you partner with us in this goal?
